ASTRA and Arvato mobile to cooperate
Unterföhrung. ASTRA in Germany and Arvato mobile GmbH, a provider of digital entertainment content and interactive solutions, are to cooperate to provide the interactive service Blucom. This was announced by ASTRA today. TV or radio stations using Blucom can provide viewers and listeners with information that is synchronized with TV or radio programmes via the Blucom application for mobile phones. The service that Arvato mobile offers broadcasters is creating Blucom pages with digital content to match their programming.
In the future, TV stations can draw on Europe's biggest digital content portfolio for Blucom pages.
To do this, Arvato mobile will link up its entertainment platform with Blucom. This platform offers an extensive, high-quality portfolio ranging from ringtones, real music and graphics to videos and games. The content created by Arvato mobile on the broadcasters’ Blucom pages is automatically broadcast and offered to the viewers parallel to the programmes. They can then place an order with a single click. For example, if a James Bond film is currently on air, users can download a ringtone onto their mobile phones from the James Bond soundtrack of the film they are currently watching. The viewers are invoiced for the content by their mobile phone operator.
As Bernhard Ribbrock, CEO of Arvato mobile GmbH, explains: “We are looking forward to cooperating with ASTRA. We can give radio and TV stations access to Europe’s biggest content portfolio and create Blucom pages for them. This enables broadcasters to offer their audiences very attractive digital content in addition to their programmes.”
Wolfgang Elsässer, Managing Director of ASTRA Germany comments: “Our cooperation with Arvato mobile gives broadcasters great new opportunities for offering their content to consumers via Blucom. This opens up entirely new dimensions for using Blucom.”
Blucom allows broadcasters to actively involve their television audiences in the current programme and to provide interactive services such as voting, downloads and chatrooms in addition to traditional information services such as programme trailers, weather forecasts, the lottery numbers, sports results and background information on programmes. The Blucom range is available via Bluetooth using a set-top box or UMTS/GPRS. All that’s needed is a standard mobile phone with certain capabilities such as Bluetooth and the Blucom browser, which can be downloaded after sending a text message. The information provided by the broadcasters via Blucom is free of charge to the Blucom user.
