Eckhard Südmersen to join the Executive Board of Arvato
Eckhard Südmersen (48), a member of the Executive Board of Kaufland (Schwarz Unternehmensgruppe), will join the Executive Board of Arvato on July 1, 2007. In his new position, he will direct the service business in Germany, Benelux and Eastern Europe (Arvato services Central- and Eastern Europe CEE).
At the same time, the organizational structure of Arvato will be changed. The separate units of Arvato direct services and Arvato logistics services will also do business in German-language markets under the name of Arvato services. Rolf Buch (41), a member of the Executive Board of Arvato, will remain in charge of the international business activities of Arvato services as well as the businesses of inmediaONE after his planned assumption of the Arvato chairmanship effective from January 1, 2008.
“With Eckhard Südmersen, Arvato gains an experienced manager and entrepreneur who can draw on broad experience in the services business. He is very familiar with both Arvato and Bertelsmann,” says Hartmut Ostrowski (48), Chairman of the Executive Board of Arvato. “I wish him all the best in his new job at our company.”
Eckhard Südmersen is hardly a stranger to Bertelsmann and Arvato. After being trained as a telecommunications technician and majoring in business administration at the University of Paderborn, he began his career at Möller Werke in Bielefeld in 1986. He started as an assistant to the managing director and was subsequently appointed head of the business economics and data processing departments. Südmersen joined Bertelsmann Distribution as head of the central business economics department in 1991. Two years later, he was appointed managing director of eps (electronic printing service GmbH) before being put in charge of VVA (Vereinigte Verlagsauslieferung) in 1995. He held several other positions within Bertelsmann AG, including the head of Falk Verlag AG in Munich, and at Bertelsmann Online, where he was responsible for international purchasing, logistics, customer service and financial services as well as the German business. Eckhard Südmersen joined Kaufland in 2002. As a member of the Executive Board, he has been responsible for Kaufland’s international logistics and production.
“I look forward to the new challenge that awaits me at Arvato and will strive for continuity and partnership,” Eckhard Südmersen says. The son of a man who owned a medium-sized furniture factory was born in Bad Oeynhausen in eastern Westphalia in 1958. He is married and has two children.
Effective July 1, 2007, the Executive Board of Arvato will consist of Hartmut Ostrowski (Chairman/Arvato IT/Arvato mobile), Rolf Buch (Arvato services international/inmediaONE), Markus Dohle (Arvato print), Hans-Peter Hülskötter (Arvato storage media), Eckhard Südmersen (Arvato services CEE) and Günter Wilmsmeier (Chief Financial Officer).
