Christine Scheffler Appointed to Arvato Executive Board
Christine Scheffler will take over the management of Arvato’s Central HR department at the soonest possible time. Further to this appointment, the 44-year-old executive will take a seat on the Arvato Executive Board, becoming the first woman ever to join Arvato’s highest leadership body. Scheffler succeeds Wolfgang Sonnabend, who is placing the reins of Arvato’s HR work into new hands after nearly 30 years of close association with Bertelsmann and Arvato, by mutual consent and on the best of terms. In doing so, he is preparing the long-term evolution of HR work at Arvato.
“I would like to take this opportunity to very cordially thank Wolfgang Sonnabend, on behalf of the entire Board, for his great achievements and very professional HR work over the years,” said Arvato CEO Achim Berg. “With his expertise and professional spirit of partnership, he has been formative in developing Arvato’s personnel relations and has contributed his part to our group’s impressive growth story.” Berg went on to express his pleasure at Christine Scheffler’s appointment, saying: " In Christine Scheffler, we gain a superb executive to head our HR department, who in expanding the Bertelsmann University has proven that she has the interpersonal and professional skills and competence to enduringly shape the upcoming transformation of Arvato in the years ahead. She will enrich our Executive Board team with her experience and international expertise."
Scheffler joined Bertelsmann in 1995 after studying Romance languages and literature in Munich. In the following years she headed the Der Club Bertelsmann branches in Leipzig and Munich, eventually becoming Regional Director for Der Club in Stuttgart. In 2002, she left to join Bertelsmann’s Human Resources Development as a coach and consultant, and one year later became part of the Bertelsmann University team. In May 2006, Scheffler took over leadership of the team as Senior Vice President and Managing Director. In this role, Christine Scheffler and her team have in recent years systematically focused the Bertelsmann University’s offer on supporting Bertelsmann’s strategy with targeted measures to develop management and organizational skills.
The Executive Board of Arvato will in future be comprised of Achim Berg (CEO Arvato and Member of the Bertelsmann Executive Board), Dr. Ulrich Cordes (CFO), Ralf Bierfischer, Herve Milcent, Mark Schmedtmann, Christine Scheffler and Michael Weinreich.
