Gunnar Bender named new head of Arvato Corporate Communications
Gunnar Bender (43) will assume the helm of Arvato Corporate Communications on August 15. In his new position as Executive Vice President Corporate Communications, Marketing and Public Policy, Bender will be responsible for the company’s integrated corporate communications. The attorney comes from Facebook, where over the past few years he had developed the dialogue between the company and government officials and administrators in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He will report directly to Arvato CEO Achim Berg.
"With Gunnar Bender, an excellent communications manager is returning to Bertelsmann - one who has demonstrated impressively that he has both the professional and social competence to communicatively support and shape the future development of Arvato," Achim Berg said. "I am pleased to be able to welcome him to our management team and, on behalf of my colleagues on the Executive Board, wish him great success."
Bender has been responsible since April 2012 for the political communication of Facebook in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Prior to that, the Gütersloh native had held similar positions at AOL, the E-Plus Group and Bertelsmann AG. Prior to starting his career, Bender completed law school at the University of Münster. He then earned his doctorate in media law with visiting research fellowships in the United States. Bender is the author of numerous publications and is a member of various association committees and commissions. At the start of 2002 he also became Chairman of the Telecommunications, Internet and Media Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany.
