East Cheshire NHS Trust and Arvato UK scoop national award for HR transformation project
The partners were named winners at the Health Service Journal’s (HSJ) prestigious Value in Healthcare Awards, for transforming the delivery of HR services at the Trust. They saw-off stiff competition from four other shortlisted entries to claim the title of Value and Improvement through Outsourcing.
Judges said they were impressed with the “amazing cultural change” that had taken place at East Cheshire NHS Trust, delivering “demonstrable benefits” to employees and patients.
Arvato UK has been working with East Cheshire NHS Trust since 2013 and operates its HR shared service centre. The partnership has delivered 28% cost reduction for the Trust and introduced a range of improvements, including a standardised HR model which has succeeded in cutting the number of calls to its HR helpdesk by 25%. It has also achieved a very high customer satisfaction rating.
Rachael Charlton, Director of HR and OD, East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “All NHS organisations are under intense pressure to deliver better outcomes while spending less, and this award is a testament to the progress that can be made if you’re not afraid to take a fresh approach. Forming a strong partnership with Arvato has helped us to deliver some major improvements which are ultimately benefiting people in Cheshire by allowing us to reinvest in patient care.”
Sally Campbell, Director, Health, Arvato UK said: “To be recognised by the HSJ as a leading example of efficiency is a fantastic milestone both for the Trust and the Arvato UK team.
“There’s a growing appreciation of the link between more efficient, higher quality HR practices and patient outcomes, and we’re looking forward to building on the success of this project as we continue to help East Cheshire and our other clients to meet the challenges they face.”
The Value in Healthcare Awards reward excellence in efficiency and use of resource within the NHS, both in the back office and clinical initiatives. The awards, which received a record number of entries this year, were announced at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday 23rd September.
