EMI AND ARVATO MOBILE SIGN FIRST EVER PAN-EUROPEAN P2P DOWNLOAD AGREEMENT, PLUS MULTI-COUNTRY SUBSCRIPTION DEAL
In addition, EMI has signed an agreement with the company, to enable them to offer music from EMI artists on music subscription services which also allow consumers to transfer content to their portable music players.
GNAB is a white label content distribution platform offering brands and digital retailers the opportunity to distribute digital content on a P2P and subscription basis.
The agreements enable GNAB to offer retailers the ability to provide consumers with a download service and a subscription service featuring 300,000 tracks from EMI Music artists including Coldplay, Faith Evans, Gorillaz, Norah Jones, KT Tunstall, and Joss Stone, and Bebe (Spain), Tiziano Ferro (Italy), Wir Sind Helden (Germany) and Raphael (France).
GNAB P2P download service
The GNAB P2P download service will support the authorised commercial P2P distribution of any kind of digital content, including music, video and movies. Through the GNAB P2P download service, music fans will be able to purchase tracks from a download store, as well as provide tracks to other music fans to purchase on a P2P basis. GNAB enables consumers to offer personalised recommendations to music fans, enabling music fan communities to grow over time.
Depending on the retailer's business model, members of the service can be rewarded with commission for every track downloaded from his or her collection, potentially enabling money off future transactions.
GNAB subscription service
The GNAB subscription service will enable digital retailers to offer consumers access to a large music catalogue. Subscribers will be able to listen to their favourite music via their PC and portable devices, on an "all you can eat" basis.
Doug Lucas, vice president of digital development and distribution for EMI Music in Europe said: " Authorised peer-to-peer platforms and subscription services such as those offered by GNAB enable consumers to discover great content and share it with friends, whilst ensuring that creators are properly compensated for their work.
"This agreement with GNAB is a huge step forward for authorised P2P offerings, and for the development of the next generation of subscription services in Europe. It again demonstrates EMI's ongoing commitment to new technologies and business models that enable us to deliver music to fans."
Bernhard Ribbrock, CEO Arvato mobile said: "By reaching this agreement, EMI Music has again demonstrated how it is taking a progressive view of the digital music market. Fully authorised P2P will enable consumers to access more music, allow retailers to offer interesting music products, provide new revenue streams for EMI Music, and strengthen Arvato mobile's position as one of Europe's leading digital service providers. GNAB is an innovative milestone on the way to a new digital download era".
