Porsche Design Group and Arvato open new distribution center
Bietigheim-Bissingen/Gütersloh. International outsourcing service provider Arvato and the Porsche Design Group (Porsche Lizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG) are intensifying their strategic partnership. With the opening of the new distribution center in Harsewinkel near Gütersloh, Arvato is making around 64,583 square feet of logistical space available for the Porsche Design Group – doubling the amount available at the previously location in Versmold. With this, the existing strategic alliance that was initiated in 2006 is being further developed and systematically oriented on continued growth.
The new distribution center in Harsewinkel has been specially customized for the requirements of the Porsche Design Group. For instance, the infrastructure caters specifically to worldwide logistics for luxury products, since the sustained market success of Porsche Design promises future growth in capacities: in the previous financial year, the Porsche Design Group posted a 30% increase in revenue to a total of EUR 79.8 million (previous year: EUR 61.4 million). The increase is due above all to the very positive growth of the Porsche Design luxury brand, for which Arvato delivers to more than 120 stores worldwide.
Arvato manages up to 5,000 stock items under special security conditions in the new warehouse in Harsewinkel. There are 8,000 shelf racks and 7,500 reserve storage pallet spaces for warehousing. Arvato processes more than 23,000 pick positions and about 12,000 packages per month for the Porsche Design Group. The variety of the lifestyle and luxury items increases the complexity and extreme variations in the items to be handled is a challenge – from exclusive kid leather jackets to limited edition watches made from rose gold, there's a bit of everything.
Other challenges mastered by the fulfillment specialists at Arvato in Gütersloh include the unique aspects of importing and exporting consignments to more than 100 countries. The basis for this is highly efficient IT. All information, data and payments are efficiently and reliably managed along the entire supply chain, with the goal of guaranteeing short throughput times, low stock inventories and maximum quality.
“In view of the planned expansion of the Porsche Design luxury brand, reliable logistics is a critical factor for success. This is the only way we can offer our customers a lasting experience with our products,” said Dr. Jürgen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group. “Precisely structured procedures are enormously important for us. Incorrect or delayed deliveries are not acceptable to us or to our customers. With Arvato we’ve found a partner that meets our requirements for premium logistics. We appreciate the intensive teamwork and welcome the flexibility that Arvato offers us and our plans for expansion with the enlargement of capacities in Harsewinkel.”
“The storage volume for the Porsche Design Group has grown steadily since the beginning of our strategic partnership. In fact, in the past two years it has more than doubled," said Jochen Ruland, a member of management at Arvato. “In order to safeguard smooth processes and maximum service quality for the Porsche Design Group and its customers despite increasing volumes, we decided in favor of more space and ultimately for the construction of a new building. Flexible and scalable solutions are our basis for a long-term partnership with the Porsche Design Group.”
The Porsche Design brand was founded in 1972 by Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Porsche Design is a luxury brand with a special focus on technically inspired products.
