Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS
innovative online HR platform improves capability, capacity and consistency
delivering transformation for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
HR Direct can be used as a springboard to develop a new HR service model and support the change, which was the case with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
background: a pioneer in HR shared services
In April 2013, Arvato UK acquired the Cheshire HR Service (CHRS) as part of a four-year contract with East Cheshire NHS Trust to provide professional and transactional HR services to the Trust, its current customers, and other NHS and public sector organisations.
Under the framework agreement, Arvato has delivered immediate cost savings and plans to attract new clients that realise longer term financial benefits.
Established in 2006, CHRS was a pioneer in HR shared services. Staffed by HR consultants, administrative professionals, and learning and development specialists, it is highly experienced in delivering people management services.
Recently, CHRS successfully launched a range of workforce management and information systems that help organisations to manage their workforce effectively and efficiently, reduce time spent on HR administrative tasks and increase capacity for strategic activities.
challenge: to effect change to HR service
HR Direct can be used as a springboard to develop a new HR service model and support the change, which was the case with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust needed an electronic tool to drive a major overhaul of its HR transformation project and decided to purchase HR Direct as an enabler on this journey.
solutions: to empower, improve and support
HR Direct was quickly configured to the Trust’s corporate branding, and its HR policies, procedures and guidelines were rapidly inserted. The new site integrated seamlessly with the Trust’s existing intranet system, maintaining continuity of service levels.
Very little amendment was required to the HR Direct framework template, making implementation easy and affordable.
The Trust opted for a basic training package to educate a number of key users in HR Direct, who then cascaded their knowledge down to colleagues; this maximised use of HR Direct from the go live date, while minimising development costs. Throughout the process there was contact between the Trust and software supplier, Sitekit, to ensure the rebranding and updating of content went as smoothly as possible.
HR Direct provided an excellent building block for the Trust’s new HR model, enabling it to empower line managers, improve service quality at lower cost, and release HR staff from dealing with routine queries to provide strategic support to the organisation.
