Arvato eCommerce expands partnership with Douglas
Arvato eCommerce and Douglas will continue to work together for another six years. The service provider is taking over the logistics for the online shop of Europe's largest perfumery group. At the same time the company is investing in state-of-the-art technology for the Douglas warehouse in Ennigerloh.
The new contract with Douglas means Arvato eCommerce is retaining a top client for the long term. The two companies have worked together in online retail since 2000. Since then, Douglas has seen double-digit annual growth rates in its e-commerce business. The company expects a similarly strong performance in the next few years. By investing in technology and processes at the Douglas logistics center, Arvato eCommerce is paving the path for further growth in the beauty group’s online business.
"We already ensure that more than 3 million items a year reach Douglas customers quickly and reliably," says Friedhelm Schmitter, CEO of Arvato eCommerce. "Thanks to our investment, we can guarantee this for the future as well, and create considerable added value for Douglas and its customers."
Arvato eCommerce has expanded the capacity of the logistics center and aligned its processes to higher volumes. Improved picking & packing processes have significantly increased the scalability of the warehouse. Orders can also be processed smoothly and efficiently during short-term periods of high demand such as the holiday shopping season. Douglas is also offering its online customers new services, such as individually wrapped gifts. Orders can be delivered directly to homes or to the customer’s preferred Douglas branch. Arvato eCommerce sends the packages from Ennigerloh to Germany, France and Poland, and handles shipping to the rest of Europe through its logistics centers in Austria, Italy and the Netherlands.
"Arvato eCommerce is the right partner for the further internationalization of our online business," says Jan-Dieter Schaap, Director of E-Commerce at Douglas. "The company brings the necessary industry know-how and offers all its services from one source." After a six-month renovation period, the new and improved warehouse was inaugurated on November 28, 2012.
Those present at the event included Dr. Michael Krings (Managing Director Douglas Logistik GmbH), Lucia Clemens (Arvato eCommerce Shop Management), Friedhelm Schmitter (CEO Arvato eCommerce), Markus Schmedtmann (Member of the Executive Board of Arvato), Peter Buse (Managing Director Operations, Arvato eCommerce) Dieter Vennewald (Managing Director Perfumery, Douglas GmbH), Jan-Dieter Schaap (Director E-Business Perfumery, Douglas GmbH), Benita Dörken (Head of Operations Internet Perfumery, Douglas GmbH), Patric Hoffmann (Director of Sales & Shop Arvato, eCommerce), Ulrich Rogalla (Director of Shop Management, Arvato eCommerce) and Sebastian Altrogge (Head of Shop Management, Arvato eCommerce).
