Arvato and Porsche Design Group celebrate ten years of successful collaboration
If a business relationship lasts for a decade, then it's got to be something special: This rings true for the partnership-based collaboration between Arvato and the Porsche Design Group which both parties celebrated in Stuttgart in May 2017.
The festivities included a visit to the renowned Porsche Museum and the Christophorus restaurant whose glass walls afford an impressive view of the museum vehicles, Porsche Square and the production facilities. Both Dr. Jan Becker, COO of the Porsche Design Group, and Boris Scholz, Managing Director of the business unit Automotive, Banks, Insurance (ABI) at Arvato SCM Solutions, repeatedly emphasized their mutual appreciation of what they feel is a partnership between equals.
Our cooperation stands out far and above conventional client relationships. After all, this is a thriving partnership that has lasted longer than ten years and is the optimum solution for managing the Porsche Design Group’s premium supply chain.Boris Scholz, Managing Director of Automotive, Banks, Insurance – Arvato SCM Solutions
Since they began collaborating ten years ago, Arvato has supported the Porsche Design Group as an international outsourcing partner in managing the global supply chain of its lifestyle and luxury items. These include technology-inspired, exclusive lifestyle products that that carry the legendary Porsche brand into the world beyond the automobile: exclusive watches, electronics such as smartphones or computers, clothing, sunglasses and high-quality accessories. As recently as 2012, a new distribution center – purpose-built to meet the requirements of the Porsche Design Group and the global supply chain of luxury products – opened in Harsewinkel, where the products are kept under special security conditions on roughly 10,000 square meters of space.
In Arvato, we found a partner who lifted our supply chain management to a premium level over the past ten years.Frank Angelkötter, former Managing Director of Finance of Porsche Design Group
All in all, Arvato ships more than two million items every year to Porsche Design Stores and Porsche Centers in more than 100 countries. The extreme variability of the products handled is not the only major challenge. Since the time between production and availability of the lifestyle and fashion products at the point of sale is extremely short, and seasonal items and special sales create extreme load peaks, the logistics must be both extremely flexible and scalable. In addition, the import and export regulations of the respective countries must be observed when shipping the goods. This is made possible by an exceptionally powerful IT system that reliably manages all information, data and payments along the entire supply chain. It also forms the basis for the highly efficient order-to-cash solution with full vendor and receivables management, which covers all processes from order receipt, fulfillment and invoicing to incoming payment monitoring.
Partnership in action
In April of this year, the company was fully integrated into the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. The even closer relationship to the parent company is now reflected in the realignment of the exclusive lifestyle brand. The brand profile is being refined, its focus shifted to the male target group and e-commerce expanded. Nonetheless, structured processes and reliable logistics are still key prerequisites for smooth-running processes.
It is not only tour customers have an optimum point-of-sale experience of all our luxury and lifestyle products thanks to our partner. Throughout our intensive cooperation, and despite ever-increasing volumes, Arvato has repeatedly wowed us with top-of-the-line service quality and smooth processes that are tailored to our needs, down to the last detail. This gives us maximum flexibility – and is one of the great advantages of a longstanding partnership.Frank Angelkötter, former Managing Director of Finance of Porsche Design Group
